Young Farmers Stamp Duty Exemption

Young farmers in the Western District may now be a step closer to being able to afford their first block of farm land, with a full stamp duty exemption now available on purchases by farmers aged 35 or under of land worth up to $600,000.

There is also a concession of stamp duty available for young farmers for their first block of farm land valued between $600,000 and $750,000.

Janet and Janine: Bringing a new meaning to “sisters-in-law”

JANET and Janine Boyd not only share a family connection – their working lives have been intertwined for decades.

The sisters-in-law have a combined six decades of service with Sewells and its successor firm SLM Law.

Janine started at Sewells not long before Colac region hero Cliff Young completed his famed 1983 marathon.

The 17-year-old had been working part-time at Bellchambers Milk Bar and had completed year 12 the previous year.

The Colac Herald’s On The Street winner for the end of 2017 is Michael Allison. Michael, an Elliminyt local, won a $500 prize from SLM Law and La Trobe Financial. Michael plans to put his prize money towards bills after spending big in preparation for Christmas. “January is a big month for bills, rates and insurance,” he said.
